WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will face off against conference foe, Central College, on Thursday, April 15 with first serve set for 4 p.m. in Waverly.
Spectators are permitted to attend Wartburg outdoor athletic events and are required to follow campus masking and social distancing guidelines. Fans must all wear face masks outdoors when we cannot absolutely guarantee a physical distance of at least six feet from others. Details HERE.
The Knights (9-9, 3-1 A-R-C) are coming off another 2-0 week that saw them defeat the University of Dubuque and Nebraska Wesleyan University in American Rivers Conference play. The Orange & Black have rattled off six-straight victories and currently sit in fourth place in the conference with a 3-1 ledger.
Junior
Lucas Huffman leads the way for Wartburg with a 14-4 record in singles play at the No. 1 position and is 9-1 in his last 10. Freshman
Cade Davis has also performed well for the Knights with a 12-4 ledger in singles.
In doubles, Huffman has been just as dominate with a 13-5 tally at the No. 1 spot. Huffman's counterpart for much of the season, freshman
Jackson Eells, is a solid 12-5 in doubles. As a team, Wartburg is 61-47 in singles and 29-25 in doubles.
Central enters the contest with a 2-2 record and most recently split its weekend matches on Saturday, April 10, beating Buena Vista University and losing to Coe. Its other victory of the season came back on Saturday, March 13 against Simpson.
Trey Melvin paces the Dutch with a 6-2 record in singles play while William Isiminger and David Boschma have shared time at the No. 1 position with each tallying a win. The duo of Tanner Finken and Ethan St. John have been the most dominate doubles pairing for Central with a 5-1 ledger. As a team, the Dutch are 29-29 in singles and 15-9 in doubles.
