WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will see its regular season come to a close this week when it competes at Loras College on Thursday, April 29 and at home against Buena Vista University on Sunday, May 2. The match against the Duhawks will begin at 4 p.m. while the contest against the Beavers is set to commence at 11 a.m.Â
The Knights (9-11, 3-3 A-R-C) are coming off a 9-0 defeat to Luther College back on Tuesday, April 20. The Orange & Black currently sit in fifth place in the American Rivers Conference with two matches left to be played before the conference tournament.
Junior
Lucas Huffman leads the conference and team with 15 wins at the No. 1 singles position. The junior is also just three victories away from breaking the school record of most career wins at the No. 1 singles spot. Freshman
Cade Davis has had a promising start to his career with a 13-5 tally in singles.
Nile Petersen and
Jared Hefel have also reached the 10-win plateau this season.Â
In doubles, Huffman has been just as dominate with a 14-6 ledger at the No. 1 position. His counterpart for most of the year, freshman
Jackson Eells, has posted a record of 13-6. As a team, Wartburg is 64-56 in singles and 30-30 in doubles.Â
Loras College
The Duhawks come into the contest with a 9-5 overall record and a 4-2 conference ledger. Last week, Loras competed in three matches and went 1-2 with a win over Simpson College. The Duhawks will go up against Luther College on Wednesday, April 28 before meeting with the Knights on Thursday.
Eian Coad paces Loras with a 12-4 tally in singles, mostly at the No. 6 position. Kevin Blomquist has totaled nine wins and four losses at the No. 1 singles spot. Thomas Kampmier and Tommy Linkenheld have both reached double figures in the win column for doubles. As a whole, Loras is 32-19 in doubles and 60-38 in singles.Â
Buena Vista UniversityÂ
The Beavers have a record of 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the A-R-C with their only win in conference coming against the University of Dubuque. Most recently, Buena Vista suffered an 8-1 defeat to Nebraska Wesleyan University last Saturday.Â
Danny Kramer leads the Beavers with a 3-4 record at the No. 1 singles position. Kris Mintle and Brenden Schlader are the only other players to have more than one victory. The duo of Kramer and Schlader pace Buena Vista in doubles with a 3-4 tally. As a team, the Beavers are 3-17 in doubles and 9-32 in singles.Â
