WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will compete in two American Rivers Conference contests this week against the University of Dubuque on Tuesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. and Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 10 at 11 a.m.
Spectators are permitted to attend Wartburg outdoor athletic events and are required to follow campus masking and social distancing guidelines. Fans must all wear face masks outdoors when we cannot absolutely guarantee a physical distance of at least six feet from others. Details HERE.
The Knights (7-9, 1-1 A-R-C) are coming home a 3-0 weekend with wins over Simpson, St. Ambrose and Cornell. In fact, the Orange & Black have came away victorious in their past four matches. Junior
Lucas Huffman leads the way for Wartburg with a 12-4 record in singles play at the No. 1 position and is 8-2 in his last 10. Freshman
Cade Davis has also performed well for the Knights with a 11-4 ledger in singles.
In doubles, Huffman has been just as dominate with an 11-5 tally at the No. 1 spot. Huffman's counterpart for much of the season, freshman
Jackson Eells, is a solid 10-5 in doubles. As a team, Wartburg is 50-46 in singles and 23-25 in doubles.
The Spartans of Dubuque come into the contest with a 2-10 record. UD has beaten Wisconsin Lutheran College this spring and Gustavus College back in the fall. Stefan Zrnic paces Dubuque with a 3-8 tally in singles at the No. 1 position. Devon Gerber and Zach Norman also have a team-high three wins in singles. The duo of Zrnic and Brady McIntyre are a team-best 3-5 in doubles.
Nebraska Wesleyan did not compete in the fall season and has totaled a 1-2 record this spring with a 9-0 win over Dubuque. Ryan Carey leads the Prairie Wolves with a 2-1 record at the No. 1 singles position.
