Men's Tennis Prepares for Semifinal Bout Against Luther

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's tennis will travel to Decorah, Iowa on Friday, May 7 for its American Rivers Conference semifinal match against the top-seeded Luther College with first serve set for 4 p.m. at the Luther Tennis Courts.

The Knights are coming off a 5-4 victory over Loras College in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, which revenged the 6-3 defeat Wartburg suffered against the Duhawks just a week earlier. Junior Lucas Huffman captured his 36th career victory at the No. 1 singles position and set a new Wartburg record for most wins at the No. 1 singles spot.

The Orange & Black faced a 2-1 deficit going into singles but rallied to take four of the six matches to earn the victory. Freshman Nile Petersen clinched the win for the Knights when he downed his opponent at the No. 4 position.

Luther College
Luther claimed its 32nd regular-season title this year when they finished the season with an 8-0 conference record and a 12-4 overall ledger. Seven of their eight victories in the A-R-C were 9-0 finals. The Norse defeated Wartburg 9-0 in Waverly back on Tuesday, April 20.

Cole Schneider leads the program with 15 singles wins at the No. 1 and two positions. Nyathi Motlojoa is close behind with 14 wins while Max Loen, Brook Norwood and Dylan Wiemers have all recorded at least 10 victories.

In doubles, Loen and Norwood have been the most dominate with a team-best 15-4 record. Motlojoe and Schneider have competed at the No. 1 spot for much of the year and have tallied 12 wins and just two losses.
