WAVERLY, Iowa—In their first event of the year, Wartburg's men's tennis squad split a pair of matches on Sept. 11.

The Knights fell in a close battle to the Vikings on Grand View 5-4, before posting an 8-1 win over Hamline University.

How It Happened vs Hamline

Led by Lucas Huffman in the No. 1 singles position, the Knights went 5-of-6 in singles matches. Huffman posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hamline's Sam Thompson.

Jackson Eells defeated Eli Krause, 7-5, 6-1 in No. 2 singles, while Cade Davis posted a 6-2, 6-4 score over Isaac Hultberg in No. 3 singles. Nile Petersen defeated Sean Le in the No. 5 position, while Sam Yoon won in the No. 6 singles.

Jeff Miller fell in the No. 4 position for the Knights, as Dominc Warzecha posted scores of 6-2, 6-2.

The Orange & Black swept doubles action, winning all three matches. Huffman and Eells posted an 8-4 final score in the No. 1 doubles, while Davis and Hunter Gerhardt competed in the No. 2 doubles, while Peterson and Miller rounded out the Knights in the No. 3 doubles spot.

How It Happened vs Grand View

In singles competition, the Knights won in the No. 3 and No. 5 positions. Eells defeated Rafa Silva in the No. 3 competition, 7-5, 6-4. Miller posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 singles match.

The Vikings of Grand View took the singles matches at the No. 1, 2, 4, and 6 positions. The Knights battled to tie-breaking points in the No.1, 4, and 6 spots, before falling in closing points.

In doubles action, the Knights took the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Davis and Gerhardt posted an 8-3 score in the No. 2 position, while Kyle Sehlin and AJ Wilkins posted an 8-3 in the No. 3 position.
