WAVERLY, Iowa— Sara Faber recorded her first double-double this season (17 points, 10 rebounds) as the No. 12/15 Wartburg Knights women's basketball squad fell in overtime action to the University of Dubuque Spartans, 68-62.
The Knights and Spartans tied the game 14 times in a defensive battle, including at the end of the first, second, and fourth quarters.
The Spartans held
Jaedon Murphy, the Knights leading scorer to six points in the contest as Murphy got into foul trouble early.
Behind the arc,
Hannah Anderson and
Macy Harris had consecutive shots from behind the arc on an 8-2 run by the Knights in the second quarter. Opening the second half, Faber and
Britney Young hit back-to-back three-pointers as the Knights would be held to ten points, including a pair of free throws in the final minute.
The Knights gained their largest lead over the game (7) on a three-pointer by Young with just over two minutes to play in regulation. The Spartans hit a three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining to tie the game at 58. The Knights overtime points game from
Taylor Runchey and Faber's trips to the free throw line as the Knights were outscored 10-4 in overtime.
The last time the Spartans won inside Levick Arena was on February 5, 2014 (60-40). Wartburg continues to hold the series edge, 67-24 in overall matchups.
The Knights fall to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the A-R-C. Dubuque moves to 12-7 overall and 6-4 A-R-C.
Checking out the Numbers
The Knights struggled offensively, making 17 field goal attempts. The Knights went 29 percent from behind the arc (10 3-pointers) while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line.
Faber, Anderson, Murphy, and Runchey were perfect from the line, a combined 10-of-10.
Faber and Murphy led the Knights in rebounding, collecting 10 boards each as the Knights recorded 48 rebounds. The Knights recorded 15 assists, while grabbing 12 steals and seven blocks.
Anderson recorded 11 points (3-of-11 FG), while Harris added 10 points in the contest.

Moving up a spot, the Knights sit at No. 12 in the D3hoops.com rankings.
The Knights remained inside the top-15 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Associations (WBCA) poll, landing at No. 15.
