Women's Basketball Hold Off UNW 64-55

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg women's basketball opened play at the Wartburg Holiday Tournament with a 64-55 win over the University of Northwestern (Minn.). The Knights improved to 7-4 overall and remain 3-0 in American Rivers Conference play.
 
Scoring Summary
  • First half
    • The Knights jumped out in front 7-0 after a three pointer from Sara Faber and baskets from Olivia Baxter and Macy Harris
    • Jaedon Murphy scored the next five points for Wartburg, but the Eagles cut the lead to 12-7 with 2:25 left in the first quarter
    • The Knights closed the first quarter with two Baxter free throws that made the score 20-13 after the first
    • Northwestern started the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take their first lead 22-20
    • The Eagles three-point shooting kept them in front by seven with under 2:30 left in the half
    • Lauren Donlea scored a layup to close the half and the Knights trailed 31-28 at the break
  • Second half
    • The Knights came out of halftime and scored five quick points to retake the lead after a Murphy layup and Britney Young three ball
    • The Eagles answered with an 11-0 run led by seven points from Lexi Hagen
    • Trailing 46-37, Wartburg closed the quarter on a 11-0 run of their own capped off by back-to-back three pointers from Young
      • Knights led 48-46 after the third
    • After two minutes, Northwestern took a 51-50 lead after a three-point play
    • Wartburg held a two-point lead with 6:06 to play
    • The Knights closed the game on a 9-2 run to hold on for a 64-55 victory
