CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—In the final regular season road contest, the No. 19 Wartburg Knights women's basketball squad posted a 72-59 win over the Coe College Kohawks.
Macy Harris led the Knights in scoring with a career-high 20 points (6-of-10 FG, 8-of-10 FT).
Maggie Wilkins went 4-of-5 FG, while going 2-for-2 at the free throw line for a season-high 11 points.
With the win, the Knights improve to 19-4 overall, 12-3 A-R-C. The Kohawks fall to 7-16 overall, 4-11 A-R-C.
Game Summary
Following an opening basket by
Jaedon Murphy, Harris put the Knights back on top with the first of five trips to the free throw line at 7:58 in the first quarter. Wilkins scored the first two points of her season-high 11 points as the Orange & Black started a 11-2 run. Murphy completed the old-fashioned three-point play to put the Knights up by 11 with 1:11 remaining in the first quarter as the Knights would take a nine-point lead at the end of the first.
Murphy answered the opening three-point of the second quarter by the Kohawks as the Kohawks trimmed the Knights lead down to four.
Brea Dillavou hit a shot from beyond the arc on an assist from Wilkins as Wilkins scored the next three-pointer for the Knights. Trading points in the closing minutes, the Knights finished the half on a 10-5 run and took a 36-31 lead at the break.
Murphy had five of the Knights first five points in the second half as
Sara Faber got an offensive rebound for a layup with 5:57 remaining. The Knights were held without a basket for nearly two minutes in the third quarter as the Kohawks came within three late.
The Knights and Kohawks battled early in the fourth quarter before Harris caught a pass from Dillavou to start an 8-0 run. The Knights defense held the Kohawks without a scoring attempt for four minutes. The Orange & Black made five trips to the free throw line in the final 1:11 of the contest, as Harris and
Taylor Runchey went 10-for-10 at the line.
Checking out the Numbers
The Knights shot 36 percent from the field, making 21-of-58 FG attempts. The Knights were held to four three-points (season-low), while making 26-of-32 free throws (season-high). The Knights bench added 24 points, while collecting 26 points off turnovers.
The Knights added 10 second chance points on seven offensive rebounds. The Knights tallied 38 total rebounds, 16 steals, and 11 assists in the contest.
Murphy went 7-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-6 from the free throw line for 19 points. Murphy, Harris, and Wilkins were the three Knights in double-digit scoring. Murphy led the Knights in rebounding with eight as
Britney Young had five steals for the Orange & Black.

In the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Knights have dropped out of the top-25 but are still receiving votes.
