Men's Tennis Set to Return to Action on Saturday

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's tennis is back in action on the road, after over two weeks off, with competition against the University of Northwestern (Minn.) and Ripon College on Saturday, Mar. 19 in Lakeville, Minn.

Wartburg Knights (13-7, 0-1 A-R-C) vs Northwestern Eagles (7-2, 0-0)

Last Time Out
The Orange & Black closed play in Florida on Thursday, Mar. 3 with decisive victories over Adrian College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
 
The Knights dominated play today with two 8-1 victories. The Knights won 11/12 singles matches and 5/6 doubles matches between the two wins.
 
Wartburg were led by Lucas Huffman and Jackson Eells, who both finished the day 2-0 in singles and doubles play. AJ Wilkins closed play in Florida with two singles wins and a 1-1 record in doubles play.  
 
Season Leaders
Huffman leads the Knights in singles wins with a record of 11-2 so far this season. All 13 singles matches have been played in the number one singles position and the senior is now four singles wins away from tying the schools record for all-time singles wins.
 
Eells has recorded the most doubles wins for the Orange & Black so far with an 8-5 overall record. All of Eells' wins have come in the number one doubles position with partners Huffman (7-5 together) and Kyle Sehlin (1-0 together).
 
Nile Petersen also has eight doubles wins and an overall record of 8-2 in doubles play. Petersen is undefeated with both Jeff Miller (4-0) and Griffin Steiniger (3-0) this season.
 
Series History
The Knights will matchup with UNW for the fifth time in program history on Saturday. The first matchup came in 2016 where the Knights won 7-2 at home, but since the first matchup, neither team has won consecutive games against the other.
 
This will be the fourth meeting all-time and second meeting this season between Ripon and Wartburg men's tennis. Wartburg took a 2-1 all-time series lead with a win back on Sunday, Feb. 6 over the Redhawks. Ripon's lone win over Wartburg came during the 1992 season.
