Jason Steege named Wartburg’s director of golf

WAVERLY, Iowa—Jason Steege has been named the director of golf at Wartburg College, John Cochrane, the Lowell J. Walker Athletics Directorship Endowed Chair and director of athletics, announced today.

In this position, Steege will provide full-time administrative oversight for the men's and women's golf teams, including recruiting and operational support in conjunction with John Thompson, the head women's golf coach.

"We are so excited to have Jason in this expanded role that we believe will elevate the level of competitiveness and the student-athlete experience in both of our golf programs," said Cochrane.

"He has been a valued member of our department for many years, has developed outstanding relationships with student-athletes and is well prepared to lead the continued growth and development of our golf teams. This position will enable Jason to not only continue to guide our men's program, but it will also provide valuable additional support to John Thompson's leadership of our women's program."

Steege has served as the head men's golf coach for the past nine seasons. During that time, the Knights earned eight All-Conference honors and fielded a conference MVP in Tanner Randall in 2018.

"I am looking forward to assuming my new role as the director of golf at Wartburg College," said Steege. "With the support of Coach Thompson, we are committed to enhancing the performance of both our men's and women's programs."

The Fredericksburg, Iowa, native graduated from Wartburg in 2006 and was inducted into the Wartburg Athletics Hall of Fame in October 2016. Steege and his wife Katie, a 2007 Wartburg graduate, reside in Waverly.
