CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Wartburg College sophomore AJ Wright has been named the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week and Men's Track Performer of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Wright, a Iowa City native, put together an impressive season debut on Saturday to help the Knights in the home season opener at the Chelsey Henkenius Invite.

Wright broke his own school record, clocking a blazing time of 6.83. Wright's time breaks a meet record and stands ninth on the TFRRS list for this season.

Last season, Wright broke the 60m dash record at the Caged Eagle Invite by running a 6.86. He later broke his own record in the 60m dash in the prelims of the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships.
