Women's basketball hold Simpson to season-low scoring in 58-39 win

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's basketball led from start to finish in a 58-39 win over Simpson College in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play inside Levick Areana on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
 
The Knights are now 11-6 overall and 7-1 in A-R-C play, while Simpson moves to 9-8 overall and 5-3 A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Emma Townsley got the scoring started for the Knights with a contested layup in the paint before Katie Boulanger scored the next four points to give Wartburg a 6-0 lead after a minute and a half
      • Following a Simpson score, Wartburg made four three pointers over the next three minutes to break out to an 18-2 lead
        • Katelyn Aden made the first three pointer before Golinghorst connected on three attempts from behind the arc
      • Corrie Harrison, Laynee Hogan, Golinghorst and Grace Hennessy each scored I the final five minutes of the half to give Wartburg a 27-7 lead after the first quarter
    • Second Quarter
      • Following a two minute scoring draught to begin the second quarter, Harrison scored in the paint to push Wartburg's lead to 22 points
      • Simpson put together a 7-3 run to cut Wartburg's lead to 32-14 with just over five minutes left in the half
      • Golinghorst scored six points in the final four minutes of the half along with a made three pointer from Boulanger to give Wartburg a 41-18 lead at the halftime break
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Simpson outscored the Knights 7-0 throughout the first eight minutes of the third quarter
      • Hennessy made a turnaround jumper for the Knights first points of the half as Wartburg led 43-25 with 1:46 left in the third
      • Simpson scored to close the quarter and make the score 43-27 headed to the fourth
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Boulanger opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and a layup to open the lead back up to 48-27 for the Knights
      • Leading 48-31, both Hogan and Hennessy scored in the paint before Boulanger connected on her second three pointer of the quarter to push the Wartburg lead to 55-36
      • Boulanger added a third tree pointer in the final minutes to make 11 points in the fourth quarter as Wartburg held off Simpson for a 58-39 win
