CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The top-ranked Wartburg College men's wrestling team (8-0 overall) advanced to the semifinals of the NWCA Multi-Division National Duals on Friday at the UNI-Dome, posting two decisive victories on the opening day of competition.
The Knights opened the event with a 50-0 shutout of conference foe Luther, then followed with a commanding 48-3 win over Johnson & Wales in the quarterfinal round.
Against Luther, the Knights produced bonus points in nine of 10 bouts, including a major decision by
Anthony Ulaszek.
James Levy (125) started the dual with a 16-0 technical fall, while
Devin Murphy (133) followed with a first-period pin.
Kade Blume (141) and
Charlie Dojan (157) each recorded technical falls.Â
Hesston Johnson (174) delivered a pin in just 1:18, and
Jake Walker (285) closed the dual with a fall at heavyweight. Additional technical falls came from
Carter Martinson (165) and
Kasey Ross (184), while
Cal Dorota (197) secured a 9-2 decision to complete the shutout.The Knights won their 43rd consecutive dual against the Norse.Â
Wartburg carried that momentum into the quarterfinals against Johnson & Wales, surrendering just one bout en route to a 48-3 victory. After a narrow decision at 125, the Knights responded with nine consecutive wins, including three falls and four technical falls.Â
Patrick Mullen (133) earned a victory by injury default, followed by a fall from Blume (141).
Caleb Olson (149), Dojan (157),
Aiden Brosinski (165), and Dorota (197) each posted technical falls, while
Mike Slade (174) contributed an 11-2 major decision. Ross (184) and Mitch Williamson (285) added pins to seal the decisive win.
