Women's Basketball Win 22nd-Straight Over NWU with a 62-36 Road Win

LINCOLN, Neb. – Women's basketball extended its winning streak over Nebraska Wesleyan to 22-straight games with a 62-36 win over the Prairie Wolves on Saturday, Feb. 7.
 
Wartburg has now held its opponent to 40 or less points in a game for the third time this season. The Knights have now won 12-straight games this season to move to 16-6 overall and 12-1 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Katie Boulanger got the scoring started today with three early points following a free throw and a floater, but the Prairie Wolves knocked down a three to make the score 3-3 after just over two minutes of play
      • Both Boulanger and Aden connected on three pointers minutes later for Wartburg with assists from Grace Hennessy and Corrie Harrison to take a 9-3 lead with 6:18 left in the opening quarter
      • Following two made throws from Boulanger and a driving layup from Laynee Hogan, Wartburg led 13-5 before NWU closed the quarter with three points to cut the lead to 13-8
    • Second Quarter
      • Ally Poegel began the second quarter with a steal and a layup for the Knights before Aden added two free throws to put Wartburg in front 17-10
      • Hennessy scored the next four points for the Knights as Wartburg continued to hold a 21-12 lead with just under six minutes left in the half
      • Over the next three and a half minutes Corrie Harrison scored seven of the Knights' next eight points on thee made field goals from Harrison to push the score to 29-15 with just over a minute remaining
      • Boulanger scored four points in the final minute of play for the Knights to give Wartburg a 33-15 lead headed into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • The Knights kept it rolling to begin the third quarter with five-straight points from Hennessy followed by a score from Boulanger to extend the Wartburg lead to 40-15 after two minutes
      • Both Aden and Poegel converted on three-point plays to push the lead to 48-21 with six minutes remaining
      • Both teams scored seven points in the final minutes of the third quarter to make the score 55-28 headed to the fourth quarter
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Both Lauren Golinghorst and Harrison each scored in the paint for the first four points of the quarter for Wartburg as the Knights led 59-29 with just over seven minutes left to play
      • NWU scored the next five points before another Golinghorst score stopped the run
        • Wartburg led 61-34 with 3:09 remaining
      • Following another free throw from Poegel, Wartburg closed out a 62-36 win over the Prairie Wolves
