Steve Johnson High School Meet

SATURDAY, OCT. 3, 2026

We're excited to host the 9th Annual Steve Johnson Invite, Oct. 3rd, here at Wartburg College's prestigious Max Cross Country Course (host of multiple Invites and NCAA national meets!). This meet has been a marquee meet in the state for almost a decade with huge P.R.s and great competition! The 5k course moves very quickly and offers great opportunities for spectators. The meet is also NHSA Certified, so we will continue to welcome teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. If it is your 1st time attending the meet, the entry fee will be waived.

2025 Results can be found here
2026 Results following the race can be found here

The schedule will look this:
DAN HUSTON COLLEGE INVITE

10:00AM Varsity Women College

10:45AM Varsity Men College

STEVE JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL INVITE

11:30AM Varsity Women (10 Runners max per team)

12:10PM Varsity Men (10 Runners max per team)

12:45PM JV Women (Unlimited Entries)

1:25PM JV Men (Unlimited Entries)

2:00PM Team Awards

As always, we will give out an abundance of hardware (top 75 individuals in varsity races and top 25 in JV races will receive medals…as well as team awards for the top three teams in the varsity section, the top small division school, the top two JV teams and the top overall team Varsity & JV Combined). We will hand out medals as the runners go through the chute (the event winner will also get a t-shirt) and the team awards following the end of the meet. Entry fee is $175 per gender team and $30 for an individual runner. All entry fees will be paid online through Wayzata Results. Of note: We have moved to two varsity races instead of four this year to better accommodate potential inclement weather. The last several years, due to heat, we have wound up running two varsity races anyway and I have felt like they have gone very well.

Additional Meet Information:

  • Buses should park along 12th St. (north of the railroad tracks) or 7th Ave. NW. NO BUSES SHOULD PARK SOUTH OF THE RAILROAD TRACKS. Small vans or cars can park off 12th St. in the Shady Acres Parking Lot or off 7th Ave. NW. If additional parking is needed, vehicles can park on the south side of campus (near Bremer Ave…roughly ½ mile from the course).
  • Team camps MUST BE NORTH OF THE RAILROAD TRACKS. We have a large field south of the starting line which is big enough for all of your teams. Do not put up team camps south of the tracks.
  • Similarly, please advise your athletes not to warm-up south of the tracks, near the soccer fields.
  • Reminder: Maximum of 10 varsity runners and JV entry is unlimited
  • We have a record board with top-10 All-time individual performances and past team results on the back of the award stand. You can also find that information on the Wartburg website.
  • No one is allowed in the W Athletic Center, outside of weather emergencies.
  • There will be over 30 Porto-Johns on the course.
  • Please advise parents to stay back from the finish-line chute
