Russell Malterud enters his first season as the head clay target sports coach at Wartburg College for 2025-26.
Malterud comes to Wartburg from the City of Omaha where he has served as the recreation coordinator at Harry A. Koch Trap and Skeet club for the past year. He manages a club that throws 1.5 million targets each year.
Prior to Omaha, he served as the graduate assistant coach for the shotgun team at William Penn University for two seasons. The Statesmen won the 2023 NCSSAA Division IV (NAIA) National Championship. Malterud spent the 2021-22 academic year as the GA for Concordia-Nebraska.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia University, Nebraska in 2021 and his master's degree in organizational leadership from William Penn in 2024.
Malterud was an NCSSA All-American (sporting clays) in 2024, Honorable Mention All-American (high overall and trap) in 2023 and an ACUI First-team All-American (high overall) in 2024 at William Penn.
