Matt Halverson joins the Wartburg wrestling coaching staff for his first season in 2020-21.
A native of Kiel, Wis., Halverson was a heavyweight wrestler at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside from 2014-18, earning an NCAA Division II All-American third place finish during his senior year in 2018 while receiving the Manual Gorriaran Pinner's Award at the NCAA Tournament.
In high school, Halverson was a three-time Wisconsin state qualifier, placing fifth as a junior at the WIAA Division II Championships before winning the state title as a senior. He placed third at the 2014 FILA Junior World Team Trials in Greco-Roman wrestling and won the Junior Northern Plains Regional Championship in addition to state titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.
