Carlson '02 re-joins the Wartburg staff ahead of the 2025 season as an assistant hitting coach. He served as an assistant coach for Wartburg baseball for nine years (2011-19).
Before Wartburg, Carlson was an assistant baseball coach for Anamosa high school from 1998-1999, was an assistant baseball coach at Waverly-Shell Rock high school from 2001-2004 and was head baseball coach at Don Bosco high school from 2005-2011.
While at Don Bosco, Carlson coached four IAHSBCA Senior All Stars, 12 All-State selections, 21 All-District selections, 28 All-Conference Selections. He was named NE Iowa Coach of the Year 3 times, was a State Runner Up in 2008, was a State Tournament Qualifier in 2010, and won five conference championships.Â
During his previous 10 years of being an assistant coach at Wartburg College, Carlson's duties included: hitting, pitching, corner infield and catching. At Wartburg, he coached three All-Americans, 20 All-Region Players and 37 All-Conference selections. He was apart of a staff that finished second in the nation in home runs in 2015, had four regional appearances and won four conference championships.
Carlson '02 graduated from Wartburg with a degree in elementary education and is currently a Behavior Disorder Special Education teacher at the Lied Center in Waverly. He resides in Waverly with his wife Sonya Carlson '04 with their daughter Maris and their son Brooks.
