CEDAR RAPIDS – Wartburg got out of the gate quickly Oct. 13 en route to a three-set sweep of Coe.
Coach Jennifer Walker’s team, moving over .500 in the Iowa Conference, kept the Kohawk defense on its heels with a .310 attack percentage in the first set and a .367 effort in the second set. Wartburg (14-12 overall, 3-2 IIAC) finished the night at .295 as part of a 25-20, 25-15, 25-21 win.
Sophomore outside hitter Britlyn Sieck (Fayette), closing within six kills of 300, led the offense. She had 15 kills and a sparkling .433 attack percentage to go along with a solo block and two block assists. Junior outside hitter Kamille Van Natta (Readlyn) added seven kills and two service aces, while freshman middle hitter Kelly Niemann (Fredericksburg) ended with a solo block, three block assists and a .286 attack percentage on 14 attempts. Sophomore middle hitter Monique Davisson (Cedar Rapids), playing in her home town, topped the individual attack percentage chart at .571 due to four kills and no errors in seven attempts.
Walker’s team returns to the court playing four matches in two days at the Simpson Storm Invitational Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15 and 16.
Notes: Sieck’s evening continued a recent string of success. She’s hit kill double figures in four consecutive matches. … Van Natta’s two services were part of a roll in which she’s had at least one in 11 of her last 12 appearances. … Niemann’s recorded a block assist in 13 straight matches with multiples 10 times.
