Wartburg gains big road win

RIVER FOREST, ILL. – Sophomore goalkeeper Monica Noti's (Carol Stream, Ill.) second shutout of the year helped lift Wartburg College to a key cross-regional win over Dominican University Oct. 16.

Playing near her home town, she made the most of her opportunity. Noti deflected four shot on goal tries from the Stars’ offense during a 1-0 Knights’ win. Coach Sara Johnson’s squad, winning its fourth match in five outings, moved to 9-4-1 on the season. Dominican, ranked No. 7 in the Central Region, dipped to 12-4.

Junior midfielder Katy Wendt (Bettendorf), adding to her Wartburg offense leader totals with her 12th goal of the year, posted the lone tally in the 69th minute. The Orange and Black out shot their hosts 13-8.

Notes – Wartburg, ranked No. 7 on the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, continues a brief road swing with a match at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake Wednesday, Oct. 20. Start time is 1 p.m. … The Knights return home to face the University of Dubuque Saturday, Oct. 23.
