Women's soccer notes - Oct. 27

Knights notes: Women – Coach Sara Johnson’s team finds itself on a strong run heading into the final matches of the regular season. They’ve won four straight and six of their last seven going to Eau Claire. … The roll has moved the Knights (11-4-1) to seventh on the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III North Region poll. … Wartburg’s offense has risen on the Iowa Conference statistics charts. They are first in points (7.38 per game) and in goals (2.75 pg) and second in shots (17.81 pg) and assists (1.88 pg). Johnson’s defensive crew has a strong ranking as well at second in fewest goals allowed (1.06). … Junior midfielder Katy Wendt of Bettendorf, the reigning conference offensive Player of the Week, is a big reason for the offense’s success. She is first in the league in goals (14) and points (36) and third in shots (65) as well as being second in assists (eight) and game-winning goals (five).  Wendt takes a string of four consecutive matches with a goal on the road. … Sophomore goalkeeper Monica Noti of Carol Stream, Ill., ranks in the IIAC’s top five in goals-against average (1.09) and shutouts (two).

2010 IIAC tournament – Pairings for the tourney, with the final four set for Loras College’s Rock Bowl in Dubuque Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5 and 6, are released this weekend.
