EAU CLAIRE, WIS. – In a battle of two teams ranked on the current National Soccer Coaches Assocation’s Division III North Region top eight, Wartburg College came away with a 1-0 win Oct. 28.
Coach Sara Johnson’s team (12-4-1) overcame a 12-9 shots disadvantage thanks to the play of sophomore goalkeeper Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.), as part of a strong defense. Noti earned her third shutout with five saves in 90 minutes.
On the offensive end, junior forward Chelsea Frye of Waverly's sixth goal of the season was the decider only 2:48 in. Freshman midfielder Anna Aquino (Bettendorf) passed the ball to Frye for her fourth assist. Frye, junior defender Jess Macauley (Cedar Rapids) and junior midfielder Katy Wendt (Bettendorf) each had two shot attempts.
The Knights close the regular season with a 6 p.m. match at Simpson College’s Buxton Community Stadium in Indianola Saturday, Oct. 30.
