LA CROSSE, WIS. – Wartburg College produced a pair of .350-or-higher team attack percentages during two 3-0 wins at the UW-La Crosse Halloween Classic Oct. 30.
Coach Jennifer Walker’s team went.368 against Wisconsin Lutheran in a 25-16, 25-14, 25-20 victory. Sophomore outside hitter Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) and junior middle hitter Kamille Van Natta (Readlyn) led the way with Sieck getting 10 kills in 17 attempts with just one error (.529) and Van Natta having 11 kills in 23 attempts with two errors (.391). Sieck also riddled the Warrior defense with four service aces.
Middle hitter Kelly Niemann (Fredericksburg) got in on the act against WLC with six kills and a .417 attack percentage. Those numbers were part of a big day for the freshman.
In the opener against the host Eagles, Niemann and Van Natta had nine kills each and were both over .400 as part of a .351 team attack percentage. Niemann was tough defensively in the 25-9, 25-18, 25-11 win with two solo blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Monique Davisson of Cedar Rapids added four block assists.
The Knights (20-14) take a four-match win streak to Central College’s Kuyper Gymnasium Tuesday, Nov. 2, for a 7:30 battle against the Dutch.
Notes – Wartburg reached the 20-win mark for the first time since 2005. … Walker’s squad finds out its opponent in the 2010 IIAC Championships late Tuesday night after their match at Central. The tournament is set for Loras College in Dubuque Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5 and 6.
