Wartburg evens league mark

STORM LAKE – Powered by a solid outing from junior middle hitter Kamille Van Natta (Readlyn), Wartburg College swept past Buena Vista 25-11, 25-14, 25-11 in Iowa Conference play Oct. 5.

Van Natta’s 13 kills, four service aces and seven digs guided coach Jennifer Walker’s team. Other impressive numbers came from sophomore outside hitter Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) (nine kills, .316 attack percentage) and freshman outside/middle hitter Kelly Niemann (Fredericksburg) (three kills, .500 attack percentage, two service aces and five block assists).

As a team, the Orange and Black (11-10 overall, 2-2 IIAC) hit a remarkable .409. The night began with a .571 effort in set one followed by .300 in set two and .360 in set three.

Wartburg travels to the UW-Platteville Pioneer Invitational Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8 and 9. The Knights face the host Pioneers and UW-Stevens Point Friday and UW-La Crosse and Elmhurst College of Illinois Saturday.

NOTES – Van Natta has 10 double-figure kill matches this year and has a stretch of six consecutive matches with an ace serve. … The team’s .400-plus attack percentage was the first for the program since October of 2003.
