Volleyball notes –It’s the first national tournament for the Orange and Black since the 2003 team reached the regional final at Washington University’s Field House in St. Louis, Mo. … The Knights, the 2010 Iowa Conference tournament champions, are the fifth seed. … Their match against the Warhawks, an at-large representative from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, is the second meeting between the two teams. UW-Whitewater claimed a four-set win at the Simpson Storm Invitational Oct. 16. … A win would move them into a 4:30 p.m. match Saturday, Nov. 13, against either top-seeded and defending national champion WashU or eighth-seeded Beloit College, representing the Midwest Conference as its tourney champ. The sectional final is 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14. … UW-Platteville, Dominican University of Illinois, UW-Oshkosh and the host Lady Reds make up the remainder of the field. … Three Knights received good news from the Iowa Conference late last week. The sisters’ combination of sophomore outside hitter Britlyn Sieck and freshman outside hitter/setter Ramey Sieck, both of West Union, earned all-Iowa Conference accolades late last week. Britlyn gained her second first team award, while Ramey was a second team selection. Britlyn leads the squad in kills (436) and second among front line starters in attack percentage (.229). Ramey is the squad leader in assists (688), is tied for second in service aces (38) and ranks third in digs (293). Junior middle hitter Kamille Van Natta of Readlyn gained honorable mention honors. She tops the Knights in digs (415) and is second in blocks (74) and kills (368). Wartburg’s top two selections continue a string of having at least one first or second teamer each year since 1982. … Britlyn Sieck and freshman middle hitter Kelly Niemann of Fredericksburg earned IIAC player of the week awards Nov. 8. Sieck was the volleyball offensive POTW, while Niemann earned defensive POTW honors. Sieck posted 43 kills, 11 digs, and five blocks as the Knights captured the IIAC tourney title. She concluded the tournament with 19 kills and only one error in 43 total attacks as Wartburg came back from two sets down to upset conference champion Loras in five sets in the final. Niemann made 12 digs and nine blocks (three solo) last week. In the win over Loras, she recorded two solo blocks and assisted on five others. She also had five digs, two service aces, and 12 kills. … Wartburg enters the weekend having won seven of its last eight. The Orange and Black is hitting.246 as a team during the stretch with five players having a .248 or better attack percentage. They’ve held the opposition to a .090 attack percentage, due in large part to 71 team blocks, during the run. … Looking at individual numbers, Ramey Sieck has reeled off seven consecutive matches with at least one ace serve, while Van Natta’s recorded 10-or-more kills in four of her last five appearances and registered a block assist in 11 straight matches. Sophomore middle hitter Monique Davisson of Cedar Rapids has had a block assist in 16 straight contests with multiple numbers 11 times.
