Knights to Las Vegas

WAVERLY - Wartburg College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both play two games over the period of Sunday, Dec. 19, through Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Coach Dick Peth’s men face Roanoke College of Virginia Sunday at 8 p.m. Central Standard Time and UW-Oshkosh at 6 p.m. CST Monday at the Las Vegas Hoopla tournament. The event is set for Centennial Hills Community Center on the southwest corner of the city.

Fans can follow multiple media options for both events. The men’s games will have live video and statistics and the women’s games will have live statistics available via the scrolling schedule section on the home page of www.go-knights.net.

KNIGHTS NOTES: Peth’s team sports a 4-5 record. They ended a five-game skid with an 86-68 win over Martin Luther College of Minnesota Dec. 10. … Through nine games, the junior forward duo of JJordan Sathoff (Packwood) and Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) are one-two in scoring. Danielson leads the squad at 15.5 points per game with Sathoff just one-tenth behind him. Danielson has used a deft touch from outside the arc to stay atop the chart, hitting 20 of 46 treys for 43.5 percent. He’s canned four-or-more in three games this season. Sathoff does his work inside the paint. His 15.4 points-per-game average is complemented by the team lead in rebounding (7.8 pg) and a second-place standing in blocked shots (nine). …. Wartburg has five players hitting 50 percent or better from the field (freshman forward Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) – 53.8/senior forward Jacey Heuer (Dumont) – 52.2/junior forward Kirk Sidey (Greenfield) – 51.3/Sathoff – 51 percent/and freshman guard Tanner Kramer (Hayfield, Minn.) – 50). … Other team leaders include Danielson (steals – nine), Sidey (assists – 27) and Diemer (blocked shots – 13). … The Knights are first in two team categories on the current Iowa Conference overall statistics with leads in blocked shots (four per game) and three-point field goal accuracy (39.7). Among individual categories, Danielson and Sathoff rank six-seven in scoring, Sathoff is fourth in rebounding, Sidey is sixth in assists, Danielson and Kramer are among the top 10 in three-point field goal accuracy, Danielson is tied for third in made three-pointers, and Diemer is second in blocked shots.

BACK HOME – Amsberry’s team hosts the 2010 AmericInn Holiday tournament Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 29 and 30. The Knights are joined by Northwestern College of St. Paul, Minn., UW-Stout and Principia College of Illinois. … Wartburg’s men break until resuming Iowa Conference action Saturday, Jan. 8, against the University of Dubuque.
