Wartburg splits matches

Wartburg bounced back from a three-set loss to Augsburg College of Minneapolis, Minn., with a four-set victory over UW-Stout to close day one at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota’s Sugarloaf Classic.

The Knights, improving to 2-1, turned in a sparkling .299 team attack percentage against the Blue Devils, led by freshman outside hitter Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) (12 kills, one error, 19 attempts - .579) and 14 kills from sophomore outside hitter Britlyn Sieck (Fayette). Freshman middle hitter Kelly Niemann (Fredericksburg) added two solo blocks.

More notes – Sieck also led the Knights in the loss to the Auggies with 12 kills. Her sister, freshman Ramey Sieck (Fayette), added eight kills, seven digs and two block assists. Junior libero Nicole Beer (Boone) tallied 21 digs. … Saturday’s second day is highlighted by an early-season clash against Iowa Conference rival Luther at 12 p.m. Head coach Jennifer Walker’s squad concludes its trip with a 4 p.m. match against St. Catherine’s College of Minnesota.
