Knights close road swing with split

WHEATON, ILL. – Wartburg College managed nine shot attempts on offense, and sophomore goalkeeper Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.), repelled five Wheaton College shot on goal tries during a 3-0 Knights’ loss Sept. 7.

The defeat, closing a brief two-game regional road trip for head coach Sara Johnson’s squad at 1-1, saw the host Thunder, ranked No. 14 on the recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll and No. 2 in the NSCAA’s Central Region listing, hold a 25-9 shots advantage. Three of Wartburg’s nine shot tries were aimed at the Wheaton net with junior forward Chelsea Frye (Waverly), junior midfielder Katy Wendt (Bettendorf) and freshman defender Lauren Bauer (LaPorte City) collecting one each.

More notes - The Orange and Black, ranked No. 4 on the current NSCAA North Region poll, begin a four-match home stand with Friday and Saturday clashes against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents UW-Oshkosh (Friday at 7 p.m.) and UW-Whitewater (Sunday at 1 p.m.). Friday’s match is at the campus field, while the battle with the Warhawks is set for the Waverly Soccer Complex. … Fans can follow along all weekend via a live blog through www.go-knights.net, the Internet home of Wartburg athletics.
