WAVERLY, Iowa—The ninth-ranked Wartburg women’s soccer team (8-1-1 overall) narrowly fell to third-ranked Wheaton (10-0-0) Saturday afternoon. The Thunder defeated the Knights 2-1 for its first loss of the season. The Orange and Black had won their last seven games entering Saturday’s contest.

Ali Kopelman gave the Thunder the early 1-0 lead with her goal just three minutes into the game.

Sophomore Anna Aquino (Bettendorf) evened the score ten minutes later as she capitalized on her corner kick.

Esther Tan would score the game-winner with three seconds left in the first half as neither team was able to score in the second frame.

Wheaton held the team advantage in shots (10-6).

Sophomore Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.) made eight saves on the day.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday as they host non-conference opponent, St. Olaf, at 7 p.m.
