WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg volleyball team (14-5 overall) split its matches in the first day of its own Knights Classic. The Orange and Black fell 3-2 to 11
th ranked St. Thomas and defeated UW-River Falls 3-1 in the night cap.
With the victory over the Falcons, Head Coach Jennifer Walker recorded her 300
th career victory.
Against the Tommies, three Knights recorded double-digit kills and were led by 16 from junior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette). Sophomores Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) and Kelli Niemann (Fredricksburg) finished with 11 and 10, respectively.
Sophomore Ramey Sieck (Fayette) tallied 46 set assists running the Knights’ offense and classmate Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) had 21 digs on the match.
Three fellow players, senior Kamille VanNatta (Readlyn), newcomer Karly Bown () and R. Sieck, recorded double-digit digs with 13, 11 and 11, respectively.
Against the Falcons, the eldest Sieck led the team with 16 kills. Classmate Monique Davisson (Cedar Rapids) finished with nine on the match. R. Sieck had 36 set assists and Shinstine had a team-high 15 digs.
Wartburg returns to action tomorrow against UW-Eau Claire at noon and UW-LaCrosse at 4 p.m.
