No. 19 Knights Host Storm for Homecoming Game

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 19 Wartburg football team (5-1 overall, 3-1 IIAC) hosts Simpson (2-4, 2-2) in the annual Homecoming game Saturday afternoon. Click here to view the commplete Homecoming schedule.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2011 inductees will be recognized prior to the game with the members of the Homecoming Court introduced at halftime.

In the Polls:
Wartburg moved up to No. 19 in the Week Six d3football.com Top 25 poll, released Oct. 9.

The Orange and Black are 44-10 since Walston-Hoover Stadium opened in 2001.

A Look Back at Last Week:
Behind a career day by junior Connor Dahlstrom (Eldridge) (225 yards, two touchdowns), then-No. 20 Wartburg defeated Dubuque 42-39 last Saturday in Dubuque. Senior Dan Stiefel (Sterling Heights, Mich.) had 222 yards through the air as he was 15-27.

Stiefel spread the ball between six different targets as junior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) and senor Levi Helbling (Malvern) finished with over 100 receiving yards with 100 and 101, respectively. Hruska tied his career-high with six receptions and recorded his second 100-yard effort of the season and Helbling had his first 100-yard game of the season.

Senior Robby Salmon (Mason City) had five punts for 219 yards, including three within the 20-yard line.

Junior Jason Shupp (Cedar Rapids) led the defense with his 13 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss of 31 yards. He also led the core with three sacks for 28 yards.

Dahlstrom was named to the d3football.com Team of the Week and Shupp was selected as a Beyond Sports News Division III Defensive Athlete of the Week.

A Look at Simpson:
Simpson rolled for 605 yards of total offense in a 42-22 homecoming win over Cornell on Saturday at Buxton Stadium last week.

Taylor Nelson threw for a career-high 385 yards and three touchdowns for the Storm.

Four different running backs carried the ball, including three freshmen. Deion Lewis led the attack with 58 yards and a touchdown, Ethan Calvert ran 12 times for 44 yards and Tyler Kenny had a 25-yard touchdown run.

Nelson also ran the ball 12 times for 44 yards, giving him 429 total yards, the second most in Simpson history. He completed 21 of 34 passes and his 385 yards are the most by a Simpson quarterback since 2003.
 
Next Game:
The Knights are off from competition next weekend and host Central on Oct. 29 before taking to the road for their final two games.
