Knights Host Rams in IIAC Tourney Second-Round

WAVERLY, Iowa -- Wartburg (24-10 overall) hosts Cornell (26-5) in the Iowa Conference Tournament second-round match Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the Championship game and face the winner of Coe/Central Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Knights are the No. 2 seed and Cornell is the No. 3 seed. The Orange and Black received a first-round bye and the Rams advanced with their sweep over Dubuque Tuesday.

In the Tournament:
The Knights have an overall record of 39-25 in the IIAC Tournament and have won the crown three times, including last year. The Rams are 7-21 all-time and have never finished higher than second.

A Look at the Teams:
Wartburg:

Junior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) leads the team with her 414 kills and 3.26 kills per set average. Three other players, Bailey Wilson, Kelly Niemann and Monique Davisson have all eclipsed the 200 kills mark with 236, 220 and 215, respectively. Ramey Sieck, Kamille VanNatta and Maddie Forsyth have surpassed the century mark with 184, 178 and 148, respectively.

As a team, the Orange and Black have 1,622 kills which is tied for seventh best all-time in a single season.

R. Sieck has 1,039 assists running the Knights’ offense and her total stands as tenth-best all-time in for a single season. Marissa Shinstine has a team-high 413 digs.

Cornell:
Kathleen O’Connor leads her squad with 408 kills and 3.68 kills per set. Taylor Dicus is the next leading hitter (328 kills) and Samantha Pedersen has 193, Katie Sickelka has 189 and Kirtley Hitt has 142. Sabrina Hargis has tallied 900 set assists running the Rams’ offense and O’Connor leads the team at the service line with her 51 aces.

These teams have met twice previously this season. Wartburg took the Iowa Conference match 3-0 on Sept. 28 but Cornell won 3-2 on Oct. 7 at the UW-Platteville Tournament.
