Knights Fall 3-1 to Rams in IIAC Tournament Second-Round

Bailey Wilson had a career-high 15 kills Thursday.

WAVERLY, Iowa—Cornell (27-5 overall) defeated Wartburg (24-11) 3-1 Thursday night in the second-round of the Iowa Conference tournament.

The Rams took the first set 25-22 before the Knights answered by winning the second meeting 25-20. Cornell took the last two sets (25-22) to earn the win and advanced to the Championship Match Saturday against Central as they defeated Coe 3-2 in the other semifinal match this evening.

The Orange and Black were led by a career-high 15 kills by freshman Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines). She also had a team-best .464 hitting percentage. Juniors Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) and Monique Davisson (Cedar Rapids) each tallied nine kills on the night and sophomores Ramey Sieck (Fayette) and Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) both finished with six.

R. Sieck recorded a double-double with her 39 set assists and 15 digs.

Three fellow players, sophomore Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli), senior Kamille VanNatta (Readlyn) and newcomer Karly Bown (Lincoln, Neb.), all finished in double-digit digs with 13, 12 and 10, respectively.

The Rams were led by 19 kills from Kathleen O’Connor and 18 from Taylor Dicus.

The Knights will now wait to learn if they have received an at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals which will be announced Monday.
