WAVERLY – A big second half for host Loras sent Wartburg College to a 75-51 loss in its 2010-11 season finale Feb. 19.
Coach Dick Peth’s Knights, ending the year at 10-14 overall and 5-11 in the IIAC, kept pace with the host Duhawks (11-14, 8-8) throughout much of the opening frame, trailing by only three (36-33) at the break. However, cold shooting in the second frame (eight of 28 - 28.6 percent) kept the Orange and Black’s offense to just 18 points, while Loras tallied 39 to seal the decision.
The junior forward tandem of Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) and Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) topped the scoring column. They each scored 12 points, while Sathoff added five rebounds. Danielson’s double-digit effort, his 16th straight, earned him the 30th spot in the college’s 1,000-point club. Sathoff also ended the year with a long double-figure scoring streak of 13 in a row.
NOTES: Wartburg ended its 75th year of competition on a strong note, gaining wins in four of its final six. … Sathoff will enter the 2011-12 season ranked No. 28 in all-time scoring at 1,037 points. … Danielson closes a sparkling three-year career with 1,011 points.
