Buena Vista University of Storm Lake visits Levick Arena inside the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center Saturday, Feb. 5, for an Iowa Conference basketball doubleheader. The women’s game tips off at 2 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.

Individuals in Waverly, Shell Rock and Denver can watch the twinbill live on Cedar Valley Mediacom Channel 8. The games will be replayed Saturday night at 8 p.m. and three times Sunday, Feb. 6, at 1 a.m., 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
SPECIAL SATURDAY - Wartburg College’s men’s basketball program, the fastest in Iowa Conference history to reach 1,000 wins, is honoring its tradition with a celebration of its 75th year of competition.
Fans, alumni and friends will be treated to a halftime recognition ceremony of more than 60 former players from throughout Wartburg history as part of an Iowa Conference clash with Buena Vista that tips off at 4 p.m. A special video, commemorating the occasion, will be played at the conclusion of the game.
An alumni game beginning at 11 a.m., provided for all former Knights’ players, precedes the 2 and 4 p.m. women’s and men’s league doubleheader.
KNIGHTS NOTES: Men – Despite a 68-48 loss at Luther Feb. 2, Coach Dick Peth’s junior forward trio of Jordan Sathoff (Packwood), Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) and Kirk Sidey (Greenfield) still managed strong numbers against their perennial league rivals. Sathoff totaled 14 points and five boards, while Danielson added 12 points, and Sidey finished with seven points, three blocked shots and four assists. Freshman guard Thomas Perkins (Sun Valley, Nev.), also had a strong evening off the bench, hitting three-of-four from outside the arc for nine points. … Sathoff’s double-figure scoring streak reached nine straight, and he’s hit better than 50 percent from the field in five successive games. … Danielson’s double-figure scoring string is at 12 consecutive contests. … Sidey’s four assists at Luther marked his fourth straight and 17th in the last 18 games multiple-assist outing. … In the earlier meeting in Storm Lake, Buena Vista charged out to a 30-9 lead en route to an 82-48 victory.
Women – Senior guard Samantha Harrington (Nashua) three-point bucket from just left of the top of the key sent the Orange and Black to their 18th win of the year by a 51-50 count at Luther Feb. 2. The basket, tinkling the twine as the clock went to four zeroes in the Regents Center, gave Coach Bob Amsberry’s team its first lead since the 18:40 mark of the second stanza. Wartburg overcame a tough shooting night, hitting only 31.5 percent from the field and less than 30 percent from beyond the arc, to pick up its third win in a row. Harrington’s 14 points and four assists led the way, while four players ended with six points each. … Junior forward Emily Timmermans (Vinton) 11 rebounds were part of a 35-35 tie on the glass. It was her third double-figure rebound game in the last six where her average has risen six-tenths to 5.3 per game. … Harrington, who had an 11-game double-figure scoring skein earlier, has quietly registered four more in a row going into Saturday’s game. … The previous meeting between the two teams went to the Knights by a 65-51 final in Storm Lake in early December.
