Coach Kara Kehe’s Wartburg College Knights face four games in two days Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13, as part of the Roanoke College of Virginia Bash tournament.
The Knights, sporting a 2-6 record, take on Eastern Mennonite and Cazenovia at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday and host Roanoke and Ferrum at 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday. All times are Eastern Standard.
KNIGHTS NOTES: Kehe’s squad finished its eight-game trip to Tucson, Ariz., with a solid .324 team batting average. Junior outfielder Lynn Heitkamp of Galena, Ill., led the charge hitting .550 with a .700 slugging percentage. She also had four multiple-hit games to her credit and has a six-game hit streak in tow. Junior catcher Emily Braem of Glen Ellyn, Ill., was next in average at .417, while sophomore utility player Samantha Kuntzelman of Leaf River, Ill., and junior pitcher/designated hitter Lauren Popov of Collinsville, Ill., each had 10 RBIs. … Senior hurler Jacie Smith of Victor picked up both decisions for the staff. She also led the way with 12 strikeouts.
HOME OPENER: A doubleheader against Mount Mercy College of Cedar Rapids Thursday, March 17, begins a stretch of six games in three days. First pitch at Lynes Field is set for 3 p.m.
