STORM LAKE – Wartburg College took advantage of a strong offensive attack to win its second Iowa Conference game of the year April 27.
The Knights opened their twinbill with Buena Vista rallying from a 4-0 third inning deficit with 12 runs over the final four frames to win 12-8. Junior catcher Emily Braem (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), led the comeback with three hits, a double and three RBIs, while senior designated hitter Jacie Smith (Victor) hit a two-run shot. Sophomore outfielder Linnea Haler (Hastings, Minn.), added three hits and scored twice.
In the nightcap, Coach Kara Kehe’s squad (10-25, 2-12 IIAC) added seven hits from six different players including a two-of-three effort from sophomore infielder Stacey Kayser (Jesup). BV took a 10-2 win in six innings behind 15 hits.
The Orange and Black wrap up the 2011 season Saturday, April 30, when Loras College visits Lynes Field for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
NOTES: The 12 runs in game one marked the fifth time this year the Knights had a double-digit total. Their 13 hits were the 10th double-figure safeties effort. … Three players, junior outfielder Lynn Heitkamp (Galena, Ill.), Kayser, and junior infielder Lauren Popov (Collinsville, Ill.), take four-game hit streaks into the season finale.
