Boxscores - Game one/Game two
PELLA – Wartburg College ended a .500 week with a pair of Iowa Conference losses at Central College April 2.
Coach Kara Kehe’s squad, dropping to 8-15 with 10-0 and 10-2 losses to the Dutch in the league opener for both teams, rebounded well in the nightcap after the home side posted 10 hits in the game one shutout. The Orange and Black led 2-1 through four and a half, as junior catcher Emily Braem (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), and junior pitcher Lauren Popov (Collinsville, Ill.), each had RBIs. However, the host Dutch pieced together a nine-run fifth to complete the sweep.
Other highlights from the afternoon came from senior Jacie Smith (Victor)and sophomore outfielder Linnea Haler (Hastings, Minn.), who each had hits in game one, while freshman infielder Katie Henderson (Vinton)and junior outfielder Lynn Heitkamp (Galena, Ill.), each had a hit and run scored in game two.
The Knights open a four-game week Tuesday, April 5, when Simpson College of Indianola visits Lynes Field for a 4 p.m. start.
