Wartburg Upsets #11 Carelton

Rachel Torry finished with three points in the win over Carelton.

NORTHFIELD, Minn.—The Wartburg College women’s soccer team (2-0-1 overall) upset 11th ranked Carelton 2-1 Saturday and handed them their first loss on their home field since their home opener in 2009 which interestingly was against Wartburg.

The game remained scoreless until sophomore Rachel Torry (Urbandale) scored her second goal of the year on a pass from classmate Anna Aquino (Bettendorf) in the 54th minute.

Torry would record her third point of the day as she had the assist on classmate Kelli Anderson’s (Cary, Ill.) goal at 60:31.

Carelton would score its lone goal of the day at 61:33 as Lily Vanderstaay capitalized on a free kick from 20 yards out.

Junior Monica Noti (Carol Stream, Ill.) made seven saves as she earned the win in the net for Wartburg.

The Orange and Black return to the field tomorrow when they host non-conference opponent, College of Saint Benedict’s at 2 p.m.
