WAVERLY, Iowa—The 24th ranked Wartburg College volleyball team (8-2 overall, 2-0 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Buena Vista (2-8, 0-2) 3-1 Tuesday night.
Junior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) narrowly missed a double-double as she had a team-high nine kills and added 10 digs. Sophomore Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) followed closely behind with eight kills while senior Kamille VanNatta (Readlyn) and freshman Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) each tallied seven on the match.
Sophomores Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) and Ramey Sieck (Fayette) recorded 22 and 18 set assists, respectively as they split time running the Knights’ offense.
Senior Nicole Beer (Boone) had a team-best 23 digs and sophomore Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) had a team-high four solo blocks.
Buena Vista took the first set 25-23 before Wartburg took the next three to seal the win.
The Knights’ defense held the Beavers to a negative hitting percentage (-.030).
Wartburg held the team advantages in kills (45-33), team blocks (11-3), service aces (7-2) and hitting percentage (.250 - -.030).
The Knights return to the court Friday when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa to face conference opponent Loras at 7:30 p.m.
