CLAREMONT, Calif.—In its opening two matches at the Pacific Coast Classic, Wartburg defeated both opponents on the first day to begin its season 2-0.

In the first match, the Knights swept host-Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21).

Junior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) led all hitters with her team-high 12 kills. Sophomores Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) and Ramey Sieck (Fayette) finished wtih 16 and 13 set assists, respectively. Senior Nicole Beer (Boone) had 10 digs and sophomore Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) had three service aces.

The Orange and Black defeated Berry in four sets: 25-14, 25-15, 22-25 and 25-17.

The eldest Sieck again led the squad with her 13 kills. Beer had 19 digs and Shinstine and R. Sieck each had 21 set assists.

Wartburg concludes its West Coast trip tomorrow when it faces the University of LaVerne and Pomona-Pitzer at noon and 2:30 p.m., (pacific time) respectively.
