WAVERLY, Iowa—The 24th ranked Wartburg volleyball team (9-3 overall, 3-1 IIAC) suffered its first conference loss as it fell in five sets to Coe (10-1, 3-0) Tuesday night.
The Knights took the first set 25-21, but fell in the next two 25-18, 25-18.
The Orange and Black won the fourth meeting 25-19 to force a fifth set but Coe took the deciding set 15-8.
Senior Kamille VanNatta (Readlyn) and freshman Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) each tallied 10 kills on the night.
Three Knights finished with double digit digs as senior Nicole Beer (Boone) had 19, sophomore Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) had 13 and VanNatta had a double-double with 10.
Shinstine had a double-double of her own with 19 set assists while classmate Ramey Sieck (Fayette) had a match-high 21.
The Kohawks were led by 26 kills from Kaitlin McClimon and Megan Barron was the other member in double digits with 10. Emily Ryan tallied 48 set assists running Coe’s offense.
Wartburg held the narrow advantage in team blocks (8-7).
The Knights take to the road this weekend as they will compete in the University of Chicago’s tournament.
