CLINTON, Iowa—The Wartburg women’s tennis team (4-3 overall) fell 6-3 to non-conference opponent, Ashford (1-0) Wednesday.
Juniors Jennifer Dallenbach (Decorah) and Brita Jensen (Richfield, Minn.) recorded two victories in singles play at the No. 3 and 6 spots, respectively.
Classmate Claire Evans (Alden) and senior Leanna Jenkins (Muscatine) combined for the 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles for the final win for the Knights.
Classmate Lindsay Greiner (Boone) fell in straight sets at the top spot in singles while Evans fell 5-7, 7-5 and 10-7 at No. 2.
Jenkins lost 3-6, 6-3 and 10-2 at No. 4 and sophomore Jessica Behrer (Urbandale) fell 4-6, 6-3 and 10-3 at No. 5.
In doubles, Dallenbach and Greiner narrowly lost 9-8 at the top spot and junior Michelle McKenzie (Waverly) and Jensen were defeated 8-5 at No. 3.
The Orange and Black return to the court Saturday when they host Upper Iowa at 9 a.m. and Cornell at 4 p.m. The Cornell match will be a blackout match (fans are encouraged to wear black clothing) and the first 30 fans will receive a free can of orange pop.
