STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Wartburg women’s tennis team clinched a spot in the Iowa Confernce tournament with its 9-0 win over Buena Vista Wednesday. The Knights move to 5-5 on the ear and 4-2in conference matches while the Beavers fall to 2-8 and 0-6.
In singles play, senior Lindsay Greiner (Boone) defeated Emily Gutschenritler 6-1 and 6-0 at the top spot. Junior Claire Evans (Alden) won 6-0 and 6-2 over Haley Henrichs and classmate Jenny Dallenbach (Decorah) won 6-2 and 6-3 against Elizabeth Heffernon.
Senior Claire Jenkins (Muscatine) won 6-0 and 6-1 in her match against Mary Jane Ferguson and sophomore Jessica Behrer (Urbandale) won 6-0 and 6-4 over Tasha Nelson.
Junior Britta Jensen (Richfield, Minn.) rounded out the singles competitors with her 6-4 and 6-3 win against Amanda Karen.
In doubles play, Greiner and Dallenbach won 8-4 at the No. 1 slot against Ferguson and Nelson.
Evans and Jenkins combined for the 8-5 win over Gutschenritler and Henrich and Jensen and McKenzie won 8-1 against Heffernon and Kelli Kroepel.
The Orange and Black return to the court Saturday when they play Coe and St. Ambrose in Cedar Rapids.
