CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (5-3 overall, 3-2 IIAC) fell 35-7 to No. 19 Coe (8-0, 5-0) Saturday afternoon.
The Kohawks were the first team on the scoreboard on their second drive of the game on a 22-yard pass from Jared McNutt to Jared Kuehner with 8:33 remaining in the first quarter.
The Knights answered back to knot the score at 7-7 as freshman Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) punched one in from one-yard out with 11:30 left in the first half.
Coe regained the lead later in the second quarter on a eight-yard run by Brendan Leiran with 2:27 left in the half.
The Kohawks scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to seal the win.
Freshman signal caller Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) finished 15-26-1 for 148 yards through the air on the day while Domeyer finished with 65 yards on the ground.
Senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) led the receivers with his six receptions for 67 yards.
Sophomore Spencer Capitani (Northwood) had a career day on defense as he finished with 10.5 total tackles, which included nine solo tackles.
The Orange and Black return to action next week on the road against Central. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
