A Look at Last Week:
Wartburg fell to Simpson by a narrow margin (20-19) last week in Indianola. The Knights looked to tie the game late in the fourth quarter on their final score with 37 seconds left in the game, but their extra point attempt was blocked to give the Storm the win.
Buena Vista was defeated 51-0 by Coe in Cedar Rapids.
A Look at the Teams:
Wartburg:
Senior Reese Thompson (Van Horne) leads the team with his 249 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Classmate Connor Dahlstrom (Eldridge) joins him in triple digits with 178 yards and one touchdown. Thompson is also the team’s leading scorer with 24 points.
Freshman Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) has thrown for 787 yards and five touchdowns to date. Hi is 65-100 with only three interceptions. He is averaging 196.8 yards/game through the air.
Four players have surpassed the century mark in receiving yards as sophomore Donald Miller (Maywood, Ill.) leads the squad with his 173 yards. Senior Curt Hruska (New Hampton) has 154, classmate DJ Looft (Armstrong) has 146 and freshman Cywettnie Brown (Chicago) has 143.
All four with the addition of sophomore Logan Ruffridge (Cedar Rapids) have one touchdown reception on the year.
Junior Ryan Billings (Sterling, Ill.) leads the defense with his 21 total tackles, including seven for a loss of 23 yards. He has also made two interceptions.
Senior Garrett McGrane (Fairbank) leads the squad with his 14 solo tackles and ranks second with 17 total tackles.
Classmate Mark Lueschow (Cresco) also has 17 total tackles including three for a loss of eight yards.
Buena Vista:
John Hill and Dylan Barrett have both surpassed the 100-yard mark with 192 and 189 net total rushing yards to date.
Bobby Brown has 484 passing yards and is 41-111 with eight picks and two touchdowns.
Logan Lehrkamp has 138 receiving yards and one touchdown to lead this group.
Nick Plueger and Brady Randall lead the defense with 58 and 53 total tackles, respectively.
NCAA National Statistical Rankings:
The Knights rank in the Top 100 of 13 NCAA National Statistical Categories, the NCAA announced today.
The Orange and Black leads all of Division III in tackles for loss (11.75) and rushing defense (13.50 yards/game).
Wartburg is ninth in total defense (225.50 yards/game), 12th in scoring defense (11.00 points/game), 42nd in pass efficiency defense (103.11), 45th in rushing offense (211.00 yards/game), 48th in sacks (2.75), 52nd in net punting (34.47), 57th in turnover margin (.75), 64th in pass efficiency (140.25), 67th in total offense (407.75 yards/game) and 75th in scoring offense (29.75 points/game) and punt returns (9.63).
Individually, seven players rankin the top 100 in seven categories.
Freshman Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) is 62nd in pass efficiency (141.61) and 94th in total offense (217.75 yards/game).
Seniors Jared Wauters (Elberon) and Riley Anderson (Dubuque) are tied for 65th in interceptions (.50).
Freshman Grant Zimmerman (Mendota, Ill.) is 41st in punting (39.12) and sophomore Spencer Capitani (Northwood) is tied for 79th in punt returns (7.40).
Freshman Frank Loconti (Lombard, Ill.) is tied for 56th in field goals (.75/game) and Billings is tied for 56th in tackles for loss (1.63).

Against Iowa Conference teams, Wartburg is leading the IIAC in rushing defense (-14.0 yards/game) and punt return (13.0 yards/kick).
