WAVERLY, Iowa-- The No. 15 Wartburg volleyball team (18-4 overall) split its matches in the first day of its own Knights Classic.
The Orange and Black swept St. Olaf 25-11, 25-14 and 25-21.
Wartburg lost a hard fought match against No. 7 St. Thomas, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23 and 15-13.
Against the Oles, senior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) led the team with 16 kills and younger sister Ramey had 11.
Ramey tallied 30 set assists and junior Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) had 13 digs.
As a team, the Knights held the advantages in kills (48-25), hitting percentage (.356 vs. .112), digs (51-38) blocks (7-0) and service aces (8-5).
Against St. Thomas, four players finished with double digit kills as Britlyn and sophomore Bailey Wilson (West Des Moines) each finished with 16. Juniors Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) and Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) each tallied 12 on the match.
The Orange and Black held the team advantages in kills (68-60), digs (71-67) and blocks (8-7).
Wartburg returns to the court tomorrow for the second day of the tournament.
