T. PAUL, Minn.-- The No. 11 Wartburg volleyball team ended its 2012 season at 32-6 as it fell in 3-2 to UW-Eau Claire Thursday in the first-round of the NCAA Tournament. The 32 wins set a new program record.
The Knights took the first and third sets 25-17 and 25-14.
The Blugolds claimed the second and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-19 to force the match into the decisive fifth set.
UW-Eau Claire won the final meeting 15-12 to advance to the Second-round of the NCAA Tournament. There were seven ties (0, 2, 8, 9, 10 ,11 and 12 points) and six lead changes in that set alone.
Senior Britlyn Sieck (Fayette) had a team-high 18 kills.
Junior Maddie Forsyth (Charles City) set a new career-best with 15 and classmate Kelly Niemann (Fredricksburg) rounded out the players in double digits with 10.
She also had a match-high .421 hitting percentage.
Junior Ramey Sieck (Fayette) had 46 set assists running the Orange and Black's offense and classmate Marissa Shinstine (Tripoli) had 21 digs.
As a team, Wartburg held the advantages in hitting percentage (.280 vs. .272), service aces (8-7) and digs (50-42).
