Wartburg’s Strong Second Half Falls Just Short Against Central

Box Score
PELLA, Iowa—The Wartburg men’s basketball team outscored Iowa Conference opponent, Central, 38-34 in the second half Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the first-half margin as Central narrowly won the game, 64-63.

The Dutch took the 30-25 lead at halftime and the Orange and Black tied the score on a 9-4 run (34-34) in the first four minutes of the second half.

The score was knotted five additional times in the frame, including at 63-63 with one minute to play.

Central made its second consecutive free throw attempt to make the score 64-63 with 1:00 on the clock.

After a missed shot by the Dutch and a defensive rebound for the Knights, they brought the ball up the court but were unsuccessful in their last play attempts.

With the loss, the Knights end the season 11-14 and 5-11 in conference play.

Senior Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) had a team-best 23 points on the day and sophomore MitchellMurphy (Cresco) tallied 10 points in the game.

Senior Kirk Sidey (Greenfield) led the team on the glass with his seven rebounds.
