Knights Swept by Kohawks

Lynn Heitkamp went 3-3 with two doubles in the second game Saturday.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team dropped both game of its Iowa Conference doubleheader, 8-0 and 11-3, to No. 3 Coe Saturday. The Kohawks received the No. 3 ranking in the recent edition of the NFCA Top 25 Poll.

In the first game, Coe scored four runs in the first, two in the second and one in the third to take the 7-0 lead.

Senior Lynn Heitkamp (Galena, Ill.) broke up the no-hitter in the fourth inning with her single.

The Kohawks would tally one run in the bottom of the frame.

In the final game, Coe jumped to an early 4-0 lead after the second inning but the Knights got on the board in the third as freshman Alex Becker (Gilbertville) drove in classmate Katie Canney (Adel).

The Kohawks answered back with two runs in the third and fourth innings but the Orange and Black would also score two in the fifth as Heitkamp drove in junior Stacey Kayser (Jesup) and Heitkamp later scored on junior Ashley Bienemann’s (Alburnett) fielder’s choice.

Coe score three in the sixth to take the game.

Heitkamp led the team at the plate as she finished a perfect 3-3, including two doubles in the second meeting.

Wartburg will face host-Augustana and UW-OshKosh Sunday at Augustana’s tournament.
